The males are driven out of these groups at about 10-14 years of age, possibly joining other male groups with an equally strict hierarchy. Constant showing off takes place between them at waterholes. Also with the younger ones in a group.
Bulls experience a period called musth, during which they become increasingly aggressive and are known to have attacked and killed rhinos without any reason. Matriarchs with infants are also extremely dangerous.
