Butterfly 15

Charaxes cynthia

mukuyu (male), propinqua or parvicaudatus male?

Photographed in the rainforest of Kibale National park, Uganda,  June ´98.

Four people have so far been convinced the butterfly Charaxes cynthia (Butler 1865). Probably the subspecies 'propinqua' (v. Someren 1969). Justifications: The white stripe on the hindwing distinguishes it from charaxes lucretius. It is similar to charaxes lasti, but the latter is a coastal species found in Kenya and Tanzania.
However, there is some disagreement on the subspecies: is it Ch.C. mukuyu (male)
, propinqua
or parvicaudatus male?
